With her enthusiasm and passion for the natural world, Jennie founded Workshop Under The Sky in 2002 bringing her experience as a naturalist and artist to each of the workshops. The nature diaries that she has kept since 1994 have now been compiled and published and her ceramics are exhibited locally, nationally, internationally in collections throughout the world. Jennie says:
“Since childhood I have held a fascination for the natural world. Constantly drawing and writing notes on my observations for the last ten years. I have compiled these notes in the form of Nature Diaries. Collecting feathers and scraps, tiny fragments of wings or shell, which all filter into the diaries and ultimately into my ceramic work.”
After gaining an Honours Degree in Ceramics at Loughborough College of Art and Design Jennie worked with Marianne de Trey at Shinners Bridge Pottery, Dartington. During this time she became interested in saltglaze and started developing her own work and learning how to fire a salt kiln. For some years after leaving college Jennie worked alternately in raku and saltglaze. Since 1986 she has worked exclusively in raku developing her own unique style.
We are happy to have Jennie share her passion for nature, travelling and ceramics and look forward to listening to her fascinating lecture about her work on 13 November.
