The LW4W Clothes Swap!

Twiggy's Frock Exchange was a series on BBC 2 during October '08 which followed Twiggy and Lauren Laverne as they hosted a series of clothes swapping parties, showing you how to re-style old clothes and look swap-tastically great. See further details at http://www.bbc.co.uk/thread/twiggysfrockexchange/

Well, we’ve decided to give it a whirl on November 14 with our very own LW4W Clothes Swap. So with your help and that of Nathalie Andrews who will be running two workshops during the day and is also going to give us a hand with the remodelling/restyling aspect, we’re going to start the day with a Clothes Swap! Here’s what you need to do…

In order to join the ranks of savvy fashionistas, just bring along 1 (or 3 or 5!) of your best loved but no longer worn frocks, shoes, bags or other items of clothing and swap them for something else that takes your fancy. Every guest should bring along at least 1 item to “swap” and throughout the day we can all browse, try things on and hopefully go home with a great new look! If you bring 5 items, you can go home with 5 items – it’s easy!

In the UK we throw away a staggering 1,000,000 tonnes of clothes/textiles each year. 7.5 billion articles of clothing are thrown in the dustbin and end up in landfill. Don’t throw it, swap it! Swap til you drop and reinvent your wardrobe for free!

Reinvent your style

Recycling clothes gives them a new lease of life. You can re-style or alter items that you find at the Clothes Swap to suit your style and you can see others get creative with your old clothes too! Nathalie will bring her talents to the table and help you with ideas for re-styling and will be available throughout the day for consultations (apart from when she’s giving her workshops).

Unclutter your wardrobe

It’s a perfect way to pass on clothes that are cluttering up your wardrobe. The clothes, shoes and accessories need to be of a good quality. Bring items you love but don’t or can’t wear any more that you’d like to pass on to a good home. The clothes should be clean, ironed and preferably on hangers. We will have a display area and will sort the clothes into size ranges – there will be a table for shoes/handbags/belts and another for jewellery. When you arrive on the day you can hand over your goodies and will receive a ticket which will note the number of items you have donated. You can go home with as many items as you have brought…

We’ll send you instructions when you register, but start gathering your items now!!
